Faculty, staff: Learn about new advisor requirements

Be Involved Fair

Starting in fall 2025, Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) at ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder will be required to have a faculty or staff member serve as an advisor. This new guideline aligns with requirements at other universities, while enhancing the experience of student organizations and ensuring effective operations.

Benefits of advisor involvement

Faculty and staff advisors bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise, acting as a sounding board and providing invaluable support to student groups. Their continuous involvement ensures that the organization's goals and traditions remain intact, providing continuity from one academic year to the next as student membership in RSOs can change frequently.ÌýÌý

With an advisor, RSOs have access to personalized support—advisors help navigate challenges, celebrate achievements and mentor student leaders, fostering a nurturing environment for growth. Ultimately, advisor involvement fosters a more engaging experience for students and strengthens the connection between RSOs and our campus community.

Advisor eligibility

Any current ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder faculty or staff member can become an RSO advisor, as well as graduate students who serve as a ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Boulder GA/TA/RA/GPTI. Graduate-led organizations must have a faculty or staff member as their advisor.ÌýÌý

Students may begin reaching out to potential advisors soon. Once confirmed, RSOs will provide the name and email address of their advisor during the annual registration process later this summer. Details about the new advisor requirements will be available in June with the opening of RSO registration. If you would like to join our email list as a potential RSO advisor, please ÌýÌý

The Center for Student Involvement will continue to offer support to RSOs, including assistance with funding requests, to ensure that student organizations have the resources they need to thrive.ÌýÌý
