The University of ��ֱ�� Boulder has established the Center for Healthy Mind and Mood, a research center with the mission to promote healthy mood and emotional resilience in young people through inclusive, transdisciplinary science.

Youth depression is a serious and growing public health crisis affecting more than two out of five adolescents. Medical science efforts to understand, predict and treat youth depression have been hampered by research approaches that remain siloed within disciplines, fail to translate scientific findings into real-world programming, and neglect to include the voices of young people who are directly impacted.

The Center for Healthy Mind and Mood at ��ֱ�� Boulder is pioneering a transformative research approach to foster healthy mood and end youth depression. Led by Executive Director Roselinde Kaiser, associate professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, the Center unites scientists and youth stakeholders to co-create research and programming that draws upon neuroscience, clinical psychology, human development, and lived experience of depression and resilience. We believe in a new paradigm of mental health science achieved by inclusive, transdisciplinary teams making innovative discoveries with significant public health impact in our community and beyond.

Stevi Ibonie is a 4th-year ICS graduate student and a graduate student in the Clinical Psychology program working with June Gruber. This award recognizes Stevi’s outstanding commitment to teaching, mentorship, and student support. Stevi has excelled as a TA in multiple core psychology courses (e.g., research methods) and currently serves as a Graduate Part-Time Instructor. Stevi independently teaches PSYC 3303 (Psychological Disorders), where she has been praised for her clear, inclusive, and engaging teaching style. One classroom observer noted that “Stevi excelled at engaging students with the course material while encouraging them to think critically in a supportive manner.” Beyond the classroom, Stevi has served as the Graduate Teaching and Learning Fellow for our department and supports teaching across campus as a Graduate Teaching and Learning Fellow at the Center for Teaching & Learning. Of note, Stevi is a devoted mentor: she supports undergraduates through honors research projects and poster presentations (e.g., for Undergraduate Research Day), as well as serves in a leading role in the PASTA initiative where she organizes career development workshops and supports students from diverse backgrounds. Stevi is widely recognized by both students and faculty as a compassionate, creative, and inspiring educator. We are delighted to celebrate Stevi’s teaching excellence and her lasting impact on students! Congratulations, Stevi!

Brynn Paulsen is an ICS graduate student and graduate student in the Cognitive Psychology program. Brynn has shown tremendous leadership both within and outside of the program through her mentorship, commitment to creating accessible paths for those underrepresented in science, her teaching initiatives, and her general passion for public service. Within the program, Brynn has served as a Graduate Student Peer Mentor for four graduate students and has guided five undergraduate research assistants in projects. She has been a pillar of support, training undergraduates in the many difficult facets of neuroimaging research. Furthermore, she has supported new graduate students as they navigated the challenges of graduate school. She has also been a strong advocate and contributor to advancing equity initiatives in the Department, contributing both to the Inclusive Practices in Education subcommittee and the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program. Nationally, she served on the Education Committee of the National Science Policy Network, helping recruit speakers and set up events for the large network of over 20,000 early-career scientists. The committee was beyond impressed with Brynn’s contributions to both local and larger communities. Congratulations, Brynn!

Caroline Wendt is a PhD student in Computer Science, advised by Theodora Chaspari, ICS Faculty. She has a BS in Mathematics and a BS in Statistics from ��ֱ�� State University, and an MS in Computer Science from the University of ��ֱ�� Boulder. Her current research focuses on developing multimodal artificial intelligence systems for understanding and improving human interaction, with applications spanning from veteran job interviews to space flight missions. As a Draper Scholar, Caroline will design robust lightweight multimodal systems for real-time team functioning assessment in variable, high-pressure, mission-critical environments. Congratulations, Caroline!
